When it comes time to plan and throw a party do you immediately get a case of the nerves? Do you find party planning to be not only a stressful and intimidating venture but an overwhelming one as well? Have no fear, in this situation, you are not alone. Prior to getting into the planning biz nothing caused me more anxiety then having to plan a party, any kind of party. Whether it was a work or social function I was a basket case from start to finish. Of course, most times everything turned out just right but I still stressed the entire time.
Fast forward a couple dozen years and now I can now plan a party with my eyes closed and hands tied behind my back. Well sort-of but you get the picture. It did take me years and years to learn to enjoy the planning process as much as the party. And now a week doesn’t go by without someone, family or friend, asking me for some useful advice or party planning tips to get them started. With so many questions to be answered with the where, when, how and all that, no need to fret, really with some thought and groundwork you will be on your way to planning a winning celebration.
Three of the Best Party Planning Tips: Let the Party Planning Begin!
No matter the type or size of the shindig that is being planned, we are all in the same boat, looking for seamless and picture perfect results. When asked for a tip or two I always find it hard to provide just that as I have acquired a gazillion or more opinions that I think are helpful when trying to create that special party joy. Now having said that, here is what I consider some of the more necessary points to help that party planner in you get started.
Plan Ahead – Be organized and prepare a checklist of tasks and responsibilities that need to be accomplished, some well before the party. By creating a list of details it will help you to not only understand but achieve the party objectives and goals on hand.
Create a Budget – When creating the budget, decide how much you can spend and then outline every single thing you think you will need for the party. Be sure to note on each line item a cost estimate making it easy to follow and utilize it when accomplishing the tasks. Be sure to include it all and remember the budget only works if you use and adhere to it.
Cut Corners – Say yes to cutting corners when it comes to party planning. A successful party is not reliant on days and days of blood, sweat and possible tears. Give yourself a break and the go-ahead to cut corners and take short cuts whenever possible. If it helps to hire a caterer (and it’s in the budget) instead of preparing all the food yourself, I say go for it. Cutting corners can be not only a time saver but a lifesaver as well.
Now that you have started on the path to a stress free party planning experience and you have an understanding of the tasks and goals you want to achieve as well as a budget. You can now easily fill in the blanks with all the remaining details including theme, decorations, set-up, food, drinks and so on. And then you the planner will be able to have as much fun and joy at your party as the guests do.
