Besides Conventions What Else is a Convention Center Used For?

For some years now it has been said that key North American convention center business has been decreasing. For what literally seems a like a life time convention centers have relied on conferences and conventions for success and revenue. The steadfast focus was to secure the big business of conferences and conventions, citywide and the like, and if additional outside the box business was booked that was icing on the cake.

Business can be fickle and like with so many industries convention center sales can go up and of course what goes up must eventually come down. Convention centers are no longer just for conferences and conventions. With an ever changing horizon in the meetings market, when it comes to using and booking convention centers, the previous tested and proved business of conventions and conferences is now no longer the only game in town. And with a downward trend it is essential to respond in the best way possible to avoid a dip and decline and as that old saying goes when given lemons make lemonade.

So when conference and convention bookings are declining and the building facilities are still available, in what other ways can the space still be utilized?

Benefits of Using a Convention Center for Weddings

Convention centers provide the ultimate backdrop and space for weddings, delivering all the benefits of a strong and commanding venue along with the intimacy and warmth of a special celebration. Convention centers are a one stop shop, full service destination, able to assist in making preparations for everything from music to decorations to cake and so much more. They are great stress relievers offering, with the bride in mind options as well as personal and customize packages.

From a small and intimate celebration to the grandest of weddings, convention centers make for a perfect setting for that most special day. Centrally and conveniently located with an abundance of hotel accommodations, personalized and professional services and valuable amenities make a convention center the perfect venue for a wedding.

Benefits of Using a Convention Center for Green Events

Back in the day, it’s an understatement to say it was difficult to find a convention center that applied the three R’s reduce, reuse and recycle, let alone one that was considered environmentally friendly. These days there is definitely an increase in the number of North American convention centers that are going or have already gone green. By taking the lead, committing to creating and implementing guidelines and policies that will reduce the influence and effect our actions have on the environment and offering an environmentally green responsible venue, a green convention center can help organize not only a successful event a sustainable one as well.

When a convention center is committed to being green, dedicated to the best green practices and has a strong commitment to the environment, it’s easier than you think to hold a green sustainable event. Working closely with the convention center service team, all equipped with a full and comprehensive understanding of not only green practices but customer needs as well makes a convention centre the perfect spot for your event. Creating, executing and enforcing green guidelines do in-fact help to lessen the effect our actions have on the planet. Making hosting a green event at a convention center a win-win situation.

Businesses constantly face the challenge to be more inventive, state-of-the-art and ground-breaking to compete. Convention centers are constantly looking to connect, amaze and exceed customer expectations in the most remarkable, outstanding and unforgettable way, to impress clients and win business. When searching for venues look outside the box. Consider venues for your events that you may not have considered in the past. When it comes to convention centers there is no detail or request that is too big or too small and they can provide the perfect environment, eco-friendly environment that is for any celebration or event.

Funny Video, Shortest Wedding in History

wedding prank, bride getting mad at groom just after getting married

Who doesn’t like a funny video, when done in good taste? Well, in keeping with that spirit, our friends at Just for Laughs Gags have come up with a prank that would make wedding planners cringe.

Just ask any wedding planner what their worst nightmare would be. Actually, I’m sure there’d be quite a list that the planner could give you. But right up there near the top would be the bride and groom behaving. And, in particular, behaving toward each other.

Enjoy this funny wedding prank video. It’s nice to see there are a lot of good Samaritans out there, even if they are the target of a prank. All in good taste, of course.

Three Wedding Trends We Can All Agree On!

Dresses, flowers and venues, oh my! With each and every new year comes an array of the latest and greatest wedding trends and must haves. And like with many things when it comes to weddings and trends no bride has to follows them all. This is the perfect chance for brides to learn about the newest trends, get inspired and then bring their own individuality and style to the table and incorporate what works best for them.

In today’s world a bride wants to be many things but predictable definitely does not fit the bill. Those in the know say that as long as that special day is tasteful then really anything goes. Having said that, when it comes to weddings and trends for 2013, there are lots and it seems it depends on your favorite source. Various professionals, magazines, surveys and wedding planners have some different thoughts and views on this topic. But there are some trends that all the experts agree on.

Wedding Trends  -Have the Wedding YOU Want!

Rumor has it the biggest trend of this year is to throw caution to the wind and actually have the wedding you want. Imagine that! Gone are the days when a wedding is all about the traditions and customs of the day. And now are meant to be all about the couple that are exchanging vows. When it comes to that happy day expect to see less about wedding rituals and more about the personality and individuality of the brides (and okay the grooms). It is no longer about what others have done and now all about what the couple of the day and customization; the invitations, the music, the venue, the flowers, the guest list, the food, etc.

Wedding Trends  – Relax, Retool and Refresh, Reception Lounges

This trend started in 2012 and has continued to grow; Reception Lounges really have become popular and are hitting it big this year. No matter the wedding style or whether your reception is being held outdoors or indoors a reception lounge provides the perfect escape, for guests, from all that wedding madness. It is also an ideal chance for guests to take it easy, socialize and grab a bite, in a laid back atmosphere. A reception lounge can easily be customized but really it’s up to the bride and groom to make it as warm and cozy, elegant and glitzy, friendly and cutting edge as they want.

Wedding Trends – Eating, Eating, Eating, Food Trucks

So many wedding experts agree about this next trend and how IN fashion it is this year. Whether you’re a foodie or not, something that started in the last couple of years and has become so in style this year is Food Trucks. Food trucks really are one of the more scrumptious fads. And if you can name a variety of food it looks like there is a food truck that covers it. From classy to down home; from comfort to cultural food; from finger food to pizza, the options are endless and more importantly delicious. After a night of mingling, dancing, drinking and pure wedding bliss what better way to cap it all off then a snack from a gourmet food truck. I can’t think of a better or more enjoyable way for your guests to call it a night.

Traditional or modern, customary or stylish, intimate or formal, the options are endless. And with so many wedding trends on board for 2013, some questionable and some unforgettable, it will be inspiring year to see what trends and ideas brides and grooms will incorporate into their wedding day.

How Well Do You Know Your Wedding Planner?

how well do you know your wedding or event planner

People put a lot of trust into wedding and event planners. After all, wedding planners are responsible to make sure that every aspect of your big day is being addressed, hassle free. Or at least that’s the way it’s supposed to unfold.

Unfortunately around 50 couples found out the hard way about what can happen when an event planners breaks their promise. Recently these couples found out that their wedding planner (who also happened to be the lessee of the venue that they had booked as well) has filed for bankruptcy. Which means they have very little chance of recuperating the deposits that they had paid.

A nightmare to say the least.

Most Venues Require Deposits

While it’s true that pretty much all venues require a deposit, the question remains what could have been done differently by these couples to help minimize their losses? As outlined in a Toronto Star article, a few couples did seek legal advice regarding their options. Unfortunately, it seems, their options are akin to getting blood from a stone. While they are within their legal rights at attempting to recuperate their losses, in reality their chances are slim.

Tips to Help Your Relationship with Wedding Planners

To quote an old expression “hindsight is 2020″. The fact that these couples have lost their deposits is devastating. Instead of being excited, and nervous, about the big day, many are now scurrying in an attempt to salvage what they can of their wedding plans.

While I admit that it’s virtually impossible to determine whether or not your wedding or event planner is right for you, there are a few steps that you should take to ensure you’re in the right hands.

planning tips

Deposits. If requested to make a deposit on a venue, ask your wedding planner if you can do this with your credit card. And while you’re at it, it doesn’t hurt to see if they can just authorize the amount to your credit card rather than charging it all together at deposit time. That way, you may have a better chance at recuperating some of your losses by dealing with your credit card company versus the disgraced wedding planner.

References. I know this sounds like a no-brainer but you would be amazed at the amount of people that do not check references. And I really don’t know why. We’ve been taught to do this early on in our careers yet it seems to be a task that we let fall to the wayside. And not that checking references could have prevented anything. But, there are times that you pick up little tidbits of information about your potential wedding or event planner that might just make you think twice. So make a commitment to do this from now on.

Backup Plan. I know, you pick the very best wedding venue in the world and you don’t want to have to settle for an alternate. Well, if you take that attitude, then you just might find yourself in a situation similar to these couples in Toronto. Create a backup plan and make that plan something that you would be comfortable with if you needed to implement it. However, your hopes are that you’ll never have to look at your backup plan (in a perfect world).

Wedding planners are supposed to be the pillar of your big day. However, when a wedding or event planner goes missing (or rather your money goes missing), your big day can be in jeopardy. Make sure you do as much homework as possible before selecting the right wedding planner for you.

Let’s face it; it takes a great deal of time, money and energy to plan weddings. When it comes to wedding planning there are so many crucial decisions to make and so many details to remember. The big ones include date, location, theme, dress, guest list, cake, what to serve and who to entertain and really the list does continue. At times remembering the bigger ticket items will cause the bridal couple to loose site of the smaller ones. Though I’m sure I’m not telling any bride or groom something they haven’t discovered themselves.

Picture taking is a very important part of the big day. If it’s been said once, it’s been said a million times, the wedding day is one of the most important and memorable days in a bridal couples life. As time passes, every married couple I know look back on this extra special day with the fondest of memories and will continue to look and re-look at their pictures for well a lifetime. Some say that wedding pictures are some of the most significant pictures taken ever.

Weddings and Wedding Pictures – Here Comes the Bride and Groom!

In a perfect world you only get one opportunity to seize that special day. Taking wedding pictures is one of the greatest ways to commemorate and externalize your first step as husband and wife and to remember one of the most extraordinary firsts as a married couple. So whether you go professional or you put someone near and dear in charge of the picture taking you want to be sure that all those details you toiled over are reflected in your pictures. To assist your photographer create a list of must have picture shots. In the end, by thinking this through and providing the list you will be happy you did.

By secretly placing a small camera inside the bride’s bouquet, Ben and Lyubov Horne of San Diego, took matters in to their own hands when it came to capturing their wedding day moments. They ensured the camera was recording during the entire event and they were able to record every single minute of their special wedding day. Now that’s taking things to the next level when it comes to wedding memories.

Wedding Planning and the Bride & Groom (Comedy Video)

Not only are men and women different their brains are wired in a different way as well. But I’m pretty sure I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know. Research shows men think more with their gray matter and woman, you guessed it, think more with their white matter. Research has also proven while both are intelligent men and women excel at different kinds of undertakings. And from personal experiences I can say I totally (totally) agree. So when I was helping out a friend recently with her wedding planning and witnessed the arguments between the bride and groom erupting I wasn’t too surprised.

During the planning a wedding stages, of course, the bride and groom make all the significant selections together. But one of the more important things for a groom to remember is the bride is in charge. Let’s be honest, she is not only in charge she is the chief organizer and really she makes all the decisions as well. And in turn it’s her job to ensure the groom is well informed and to allocate the responsibilities too. Some brides want all their groom’s attention and help and others find it to be more of a burden. I’m just saying. In a perfect world a couple is able to work together for perfect results.

The Bride and Groom on the Same Page, NOT!

The video below, thanks to BBC3’s Man stroke Woman,  is proof positive that men and women and brides and grooms do indeed think and plan differently.

So take a minute and enjoy.

Wedding Planning; the Best of Wedding Proposals Gone Wrong (Comedy Video)

Ah the wedding proposal. It’s the time honored tradition where the man asks for the woman’s hand in marriage. At least that’s what the suspected outcome is.

With Wedding Planning It’s Assumed That the Couple Are in Agreement

I’m sure you have been to those sporting events where you have seen the Jumbotron display an unsuspecting woman being approached by her boyfriend with a small package in hand. The next thing you know he’s on his knees and she has this very horrified look on her face. And in your mind, you’re hoping that that horrified look coming from her is simply her reaction to being on the Jumbotron. Not her reaction to what she think is going to happen next.

But have you ever wondered what it would be like to witness a wedding proposal only to see the assumed bride-to-be reject what is being offered to her? Even further, what would you do if you were asked to be part of that scenario?

Wedding Proposals Generally Make Strangers Feel Happy for the Couple-Right?

In the comedy video below, supplied by our friends at Just for Laugh Gags, watch as strangers try to help surprise wedding proposals unfold. Pay particular attention to the strangers’ faces, as they soon realize that the potential brides want nothing of the sort.

All in good humor, of course.

When it comes to wedding planning and planning a wedding there’s not one single person that goes into it with the thoughts of disaster or misadventure. Once that oh so special and specific question is popped, we all jump in head first with the hopes and thoughts of having a most perfect day. Really so many brides have been planning this extra special time, at least in their head, for literally a lifetime. But sometimes it makes no difference how much time, money or attention one puts into planning this extraordinary affair “stuff” still can happen.

In some respects the thought is all weddings are the same. And while in some ways that is true in so many other ways not so much. The type of wedding one ultimately decides to go with should be a reflection of the likes and wishes of the bride and groom. And no matter what style of event that is planned; whether it’s formal or casual, at home or at a destination, indoors or outdoors, traditional or non-traditional, religious or civil, weddings can be the most amazingly fun experience. Whenever I am asked for a bit of wedding planning advice by friends and family, I always share the same tip. That no matter how much time and energy they have put into the planning, something most likely will go astray. So the number one tip; is be sure to enjoy their special day and don’t let the small stuff effect or ruin their happiness.

Thanks to YouTube we are given a firsthand look at exactly one of those “something will go astray” moments. Be ready to smile!
