Wedding Planning Fail, Bride and Groom Entrance Goes Horribly Wrong (Comedy Video)

ride and groom zip lining, wedding planning failWhen it comes to wedding planning, quite often the goal of the wedding planner is to make the bride and groom’s special day unique. And considering that there are a lot of weddings being planned, that can be quite a challenge.

Case in point.

In the video below, it’s obvious that the bride and groom are perhaps active, outdoors people. So the planner’s intent here was to create an entrance that would fit with the personality of the couple. Sounds good enough on paper, right?

If the goal was to make the wedding , and in particular the entrance, a memorable event, well then they succeeded. I’m just not so sure that it’s going to be remembered for the reasons they thought.

Event Planners Need Good Communication Skills (Comedy Video)

two men comically using a bullhorn to demonstrate good communication skills

It’s a funny thing, communication. You actually have to listen to what the other person is saying. How many times have you been talking to somebody when it became quite obvious that the person was really just waiting for you to finish so that they could start talking.

In other words they’ve completely zoned you out.

The Importance of Good Communication Skills

To be a great event planner means that you’re good at effective communication. Written communication skills, as well as verbal communication, are essential to an event planner as they work with many people in order to get their job done. Without expressing their expectations properly, a meeting or event could soon become a nightmare.

When I was writing this article, I was looking for a way to give an example of bad communication skills. I came across a comedy video, which is actually a commercial for Ameriquest Mortgage Company, that best illustrates what can go horribly wrong when there is a misunderstanding in communication.

While I’m sure you’ll get a chuckle out of the video, let’s hope its message hits home. Don’t forget to tell people what your expectations are, as I’m sure you’re aware that they “can’t read your mind”.

A Team Building Comedy Video to Help Break the Ice

“For the Birds” video short by Pixar

It’s very common for meetings and events to include team building activities. The challenge for many event planners is to find ways to engage the audience. An event planner’s goal, when determining team building ideas, is to make all of their attendees feel comfortable enough that they’ll want to engage others and have fun. Something to break the ice, so-to-speak. After all, the goal with any teambuilding exercise is to have your team working side-by-side assisting each other to complete a common task or goal.

“For the birds”, a short 3 min. video from Pixar, has been used by meeting and event planners as a way to make people relax and have a good laugh at the same time.

A comical video is a great icebreaker. After all, where is it written that you can’t have fun while working at the same time?

Isn’t the Easter Bunny Supposed to Make Kids Happy (Funny Video)?

Scary Easter Bunny

It’s the time of year when the Easter Bunny makes his annual visit delivering all the chocolate goodies. Setting aside the Christian aspect of the holiday, Easter is also synonymous with chocolate. And who better to deliver these delicious treats than the Easter Bunny himself, of course!

Many parents spend countless hours concocting Easter ideas for kids. Of course many of these ideas include colorful eggs (do Easter bunnies lay eggs??) and, of course, the hunt for the chocolate eggs. I seem to have an up session with the chocolate Easter eggs here, I’m realizing. Hum.

An Easter Bunny Entrance That Takes a Turn for the (Comical) Worst

The video below was setup by the parents of two small children who were, as you can tell, anxious to find out what the Easter Bunny was bringing. It’s obvious that parents wanted the element of surprise to be a large part of the Easter tradition. But, as you’ll see, the surprise didn’t quite unfold the way the parents thought.

Get Ready, Set and Go It’s Easter Time!

When you first see the signs of spring and the super sweet bunnies arrive, chocolate and the like, we all know Easter is just around the corner. And while some people may disagree (though not me) Easter isn’t just about the chocolate and fun. For so many this holiday is all about celebrating their religious convictions.

As explained in the bible Easter Sunday commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his death. And while some celebrate by going to church and enjoying a family meal others of us celebrate in a more traditional less religious way by getting together and spending time with loved ones. Some of the traditions include good food, decorating eggs, an egg hunt, the Easter bunny as well as crafts and games. Growing up my family didn’t celebrate this holiday but we never felt left out. Like clockwork, each and every year  when Easter arrived we woke up to a shoe box full of chocolate, sweets and toys. Thanks Mom!

Is Easter the Number One Holiday?

For Christians, Easter is the most significant and meaningful religious holiday. And after Christmas, this holiday is known as the second most liked holiday. As a matter of fact, Easter is identified as a moveable feast meaning “a religious holiday that falls on different dates in different years”. And that’s because western churches use the Gregorian calendar and eastern churches use the Julian calendar.

Easter Fun Facts

• After Halloween, Easter is the second biggest holiday after Halloween for candy consumption.
• With over 120 million cards will be sent making it the fourth largest card exchanging holiday.
• The first chocolate eggs were made in Europe in the early 19th century.
• Yearly over 90 million chocolate Easter bunnies are created and 76% of Americans eat the ears first.
• Americans eat over 700 million marshmallow peeps and they are the most popular non-chocolate Easter candy.
• Over 16 billion jelly beans are made with red being the number one favorite of kids.
• In 1971 the Cadbury Creme Egg debut and over 300 million eggs are made each year.

Easter wouldn’t be complete without a fun and amusing bloopers reel. So enjoy this entertaining collection of kid’s Easter blooper’s.

So no matter how you mark and celebrate this holiday, all of us at Plan an Event are wishing you a very happy Easter weekend!

Funny Video, Shortest Wedding in History

wedding prank, bride getting mad at groom just after getting married

Who doesn’t like a funny video, when done in good taste? Well, in keeping with that spirit, our friends at Just for Laughs Gags have come up with a prank that would make wedding planners cringe.

Just ask any wedding planner what their worst nightmare would be. Actually, I’m sure there’d be quite a list that the planner could give you. But right up there near the top would be the bride and groom behaving. And, in particular, behaving toward each other.

Enjoy this funny wedding prank video. It’s nice to see there are a lot of good Samaritans out there, even if they are the target of a prank. All in good taste, of course.

St. Patrick’s Day Party Fails (Comedy Video)

Happy St. Patrick's Day cloverSt. Patrick’s Day officially started in the early 17th century. It’s recognized as an official holiday in Ireland (naturally). Even here in North America, it’s an official holiday in Newfoundland, Canada. Of course on March 17th of each year we all become a little more Irish – and green.

What is St. Patrick’s Day about?

When we think of St. Patrick’s Day, the more common items that pop into our minds are the green food and green beer. Yes, it’s pretty much the only day of the year where it would be considered acceptable to drink green beer and eat green food. It really is a celebration of all things Irish.

Here in North America, and especially in the more Irish cities such as New York and Chicago, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a parade followed by the usual fun fair at a local pub. And, as green is synonymous with Ireland, everything about St. Patrick’s Day decorations has to do with green. In Chicago, even the water goes green.

Of course when there is a little more cheer than normal involved things can, how shall we say this, sometimes get carried away. In the video below, from Huffington Post, take a look at some of the more humorous aspects of St. Patrick’s Day. Pretty safe to say that perhaps the people here were enjoying themselves a little too much.

From all of us here at Plan an Event, we wish you a very Happy St. Patrick’s Day. Try not to become part of next year’s video compilation. But enjoy yourselves!

Party Planning Basics

hand with the word Party!

Party planning can easily become an all-consuming, stressful situation. I am always asked by family and friends what it takes to plan a successful party. And something I learned early in my career, when it comes to party planning and planning in general “success is definitely in the details”. What makes a party great has everything to do with the planning and preparation. No matter the kind of party; birthday, bachelorette, wedding, anniversary or just a plain old house party; party planning success requires the greatest of attention to all those details required. The to-do list can seem endless; making a budget, choosing a theme, date and location, invitations, food and beverage, decorations, entertainment and so on.

Party Planning Basics – When Possible Say Yes to Help!

Whenever realistic and feasible working with a party planner will help to create the celebration you envision by incorporating all your bells and whistles. While at the same time ensuring budget concerns are met and the experience from start to finish is as stress-free as possible. A party planner stays up-to-date on all the latest and greatest party trends and will do as much or as little as a client requires. They listen to the client’s thoughts and ideas, make their own recommendations and with a bit of give and take grab the reins and plan and execute the party of their client’s dreams.

Party Planning Basics – Get Ready to Giggle!

Thanks to one of my favorites Funny or Die, a quick moment of levity. A humorous, tongue and cheek look at a party planner and her client and an instance of what NOT to do or say.
