60th Birthday Party Ideas Can Be A Lot Of Fun

It used to be that 60th birthday party ideas always centered around the birthday boy or girl becoming over the hill. However, today, anyone that’s turning 60 is by no means ready to retire. So some of you may be wondering if there are any 60th birthday party ideas that might fit the special person in your life. Well, I’m happy to say, there are many things that you can do to make a 60th birthday party one that’s a lot of fun for the birthday boy or girl as well as everybody that’s coming to celebrate.

60th Birthday Party Ideas-the Birthday Boy or Girl Was Born in 1952

Anyone celebrating their 60th birthday this year was born in 1952. Many of us are familiar with the term baby boomer. Well anyone approaching their 60th birthday was definitely on the beginning side of the baby boomer generation. Basically this is the term given to anyone born after the end of World War II up until the early 1960s.

Some Major Events and Happenings from 1952 Are:

  • the first US test of a hydrogen bomb (this one might be a hard thing for a birthday party ideas though).
  • Queen Elizabeth was coronated Queen of England and its Commonwealth nations
  • NBC’s “The Today Show” premiered
  • Agatha Christie’s “The Mouse Trap” opened in London. It is still running nonstop today making the mouse trap the longest running play in history.
  • Movies included; Limelight, High Noon, the Greatest Show on Earth
  • music from 1952 included; It Takes Two to Tango, Your Cheating Heart (again the song may not do well in the 60th birthday party ideas theme of things), Wheel of Fortune, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
  • TV shows in 1952 were; I Love Lucy, The Jackie Gleason Show, the Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, George Burns and Gracie Allen Show

My advice to anyone looking for 60th birthday party ideas is to look at what events were happening the year are the birthday boy or girl was born. Of course, as always, it’s important to match any theme to the personality of the person that you are honoring. Today anyone turning 60 is probably looking at this milestone as a reality check that time is moving along rather swiftly. Whenever I meet someone that is around 60, I am almost always impressed at how they are very much still an active middle-aged person. And from there, there are many activities that you can review to come up with a birthday party theme that fits the personality.

17th Birthday Party Ideas

Do you know someone that will soon be celebrating their 17th birthday? If so, you’re probably wondering where to get 17th birthday party ideas. It’s no secret that, for many 17-year-olds, it’s hard to know what they’ll want for their birthday. For any of you that have a 17-year-old in the family, you probably understand what I mean here. But, lucky for you, I’m here to tell you that there are a few things that you can do that will make the birthday celebrations fun for the soon to be 17-year-old.

17th Birthday Party Ideas-Take a Look at the Events from When They Were Born

If someone is turning 17 this year, that means they were born in 1995. Yep you read that right, 1995! For too many of us, 1995 seems like just yesterday. However, for the 17-year-old, 1995 is a lifetime ago. Which just goes to show you that time is, very much, a relative thing.

So what did the year 1995 bring us? Well it was the year that Microsoft released Windows 95. Movies released that year include; Toy Story, Batman Forever, Apollo 13, Ace Ventura, Goldeneye, Jumanji, Die Hard with a Vengeance and Braveheart. For music lovers, the following musicians were popular in 1995; Smashing Pumpkins, Rage against the Machine, Van Halen, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Atlantis Morissette, Madonna, Garth Brooks and Janet Jackson.

What Should Your 17th Birthday Party Ideas Include?

At first you might think that putting together a birthday party for a 17-year-old is no small task. While you do have a point there, there are a few things that you can do to put a smile on the new 17-year-old’s face.

Some 17th birthday party ideas:

A Movie Night. You could do this in a number of ways. One idea would be to look at movies from when the 17-year-old was born (of course make sure they match what the birthday boy or girl likes). And then seem the party around the movie or movies that you’ll be showing. Another option might be to take a group of friends out for a movie night. Taking the birthday crowd out to a movie will incur some costs. But you can also check with your local movie theaters to see if there are any group discounts based on the number of people and the night of the week that you are considering. Another thing that I would recommend is that the parent not attend the birthday party. There’s nothing wrong with dropping off and picking up but it’s pretty safe to say that the 17-year-old would have a better time without mom or dad around (sorry).

A Music Event. Similar to movies from 1995 you can also make a compilation of songs from the year the birthday boy or girl was born. Maybe even take it one step further and, if there is one particular band that is enjoyed, see if there is a DVD of the concert that you can play. Asking the attendees to come in theme is also not a bad addition to the music idea.

Race Car Driving. This one, while I don’t rule girls out, might be more geared towards a 17-year-old young man. For any of you that live in and around a race track, you might want to check and see if they offer race car driving. After a few rounds of training, these new race car drivers will get a chance to go around the track in the same fashion that many of the season drivers get to enjoy. And why not make a picnic out of it and bring some snacks along for the event.

Paintball or Laser Tag. I actually went to a paintball birthday party for somebody that was in their 30s a few years back. At first I thought we might be a little old for it. But, I’m happy to tell you, that the 20 people or so that were there had a great time. What group of 17-year-olds wouldn’t enjoy an evening out doing laser tag or paintball.

Planning a birthday party for 17-year-old may seem like a daunting task. But there are many ideas for a 17th birthday party that you can easily implement without blowing the budget. Whichever idea you decide, the number one rule is that the event should be something that the birthday boy or girl has an interest in.

Adult Birthday Party Ideas – You’re Only as Old as You Feel!

I’ve said it before but it does bear repeating; Birthdays are special, regardless of age or gender. That’s my feeling anyway. Who said when you become an adult you’re too old to celebrate and have fun? For some adults just the thought of becoming another year older turns them in to a ball of fear and anxiety. I really never understood that. Surely celebrating another glorious year definitely beats the alternative…and you know what I mean by the “alternative”. Whether you’re turning 25, 45 or 65 or any other age, birthdays and birthday parties can be significant and important for each one of us.

Birthday parties never fail to entertain and please. If planned right they are always a great time, not only for the guest of honor but the invitees as well. Our young ones aren’t the only ones that know how to have fun and enjoy a birthday party. Some say planning a birthday party for a kid is way (way) easier than doing so for an adult. Whether you agree with that or not, the question still remains. Where to start?

Adult Birthday Party Ideas – Happy Birthday to YOU!

The words “birthday party” bring to mind visions of screaming kids, chaos, kiddie decorations and sticky sweets come. But it doesn’t have to be that way. First thing on your party plan is to come up with a budget and then stick to it. Once the budget has been confirmed the next step is all about picking a theme. The party should mean something to the birthday honoree so think about who you are planning the celebration for and what they would want. It’s key to throw a party that will not only be enjoyed by the special birthday celebrator but where they will feel at ease and happy. Depending on the person, the theme possibilities are endless. Once the theme is established, like any party planning, there are tons of other factors to consider; date, venue, size, guest list, designing invitations, menu, decor, entertainment and so much more. The list truly can seem never ending.

Adult Birthday Party Ideas – Surprise!

Thanks to our friends at Funny or Die, while providing us with a chuckle, they show us how imperative it is to really think about and consider the person you are planning the party for whether it is a surprise or not.

Planning adult parties just takes a bit of creativity and vision. So get your imagination going, pick a theme and start planning!

LEGO Birthday Party Ideas – Help!

lego spelled out in lego pieces

A couple of weeks ago I received a panicked call from a friend of mine. Her daughter had announced that after really thinking about it, she had decided that for her next birthday, she wanted a LEGO themed party. Yep, you heard it right. All LEGO, all the time. And my friend was at a loss, what to do, what to do?

Apparently her daughter is just obsessed with LEGO. Simply said, she loves everything, EVERYTHING LEGO. As we all know, LEGO is a terrific toy that inspires innovation, vision and imagination. LEGO provides unlimited hours of fun and enjoyment for would be builders and is a very popular party theme amongst kids. So why not throw a LEGO themed party? By allowing the birthday boy or girl to be part of the decision making and planning, not only will it help to individualize the party but planning a birthday party based on what our kids truly love and are passionate about will always be a success.

LEGO Birthday Party Ideas – Let’s Get Building!

First item on our party plan was to tackle the invitations. There really are a lot of ways to go with invitations. There are some truly great websites available where you can easily download and print LEGO invites from. But we wanted to create the invitation ourselves. There were lots of ideas to choose from. We considered building a LEGO town and taking a picture or creating out of construction paper a LEGO shaped block and outlining all the party details on the back. Or as one Mom did, create a mini figure in the likeness of the birthday honoree and add a tag with all the party details. But in the end we decided to go with creating a puzzle (on card stock) out of LEGO blocks with all the party particulars. When the invited guests received the invitation they had to put the pieces to read the details!

Decorating was an easy feat. Colors were a no brainer; we went with yellow, blue, red and white (LEGO colors). We hung streamers and balloons around the room. We were able to borrow some construction cones and attached balloons to them and scattered them around the room too. As each guest arrived they were given a plastic construction hat to wear (both a decoration and a favor). We downloaded and printed different LEGO blocks and creations and then created from construction paper and cardboard additional LEGO blocks and figures and hung them around the room too. Next, we had the kids build some LEGO creations and used them as table centerpieces. It probably goes without saying but the key was lots and lots of LEGO, LEGO figures and LEGO structures as far as the eye can see.

LEGO Birthday Party Ideas – Time to Play And Eat!

In addition to just playing with LEGO, with a little research we found some really fun LEGO designed games for the kids to enjoy while using up some of that extra celebratory energy. The kids loved this part of the party, they got to run around and, well, act like kids. The games we ended up playing were Pass the LEGO, LEGO Toss, LEGO Guess (using a jar and as many LEGO pieces as possible), LEGO Bucket (find the one off color LEGO), Build a LEGO (the tallest structure or biggest bridge), Pin the LEGO on the LEGO Man, Spy the LEGO Guy and the always favorite Spoon and LEGO race. And we had tons of LEGO available for the kids to play with. And play they did!

We decided to make the food all appear as LEGO like as much as possible. We agreed we should go with the keep it simple route. So we prepared party sandwiches, pizza and cheese and crackers, all designed to look like LEGO blocks. We then took veggies and dip and designed the platter to look like construction supplies. Cool right! Next, we had fruit skewers, jello cups also devised to look like LEGO. We complimented the food with LEGO looking chocolate treats and dry snacks. As an alternate to cake we did cupcakes designed with the LEGO look. But instead of completing all the cupcakes we left enough bare so the kids could decorate them. We had an abundance of supplies; M&M’s, block candy, LEGO candy and the like. The kids had a blast decorating and then devouring them.

Every kid loves a loot bag and we had so much fun putting them together, We designed the bags to look like a LEGO block and then filled them with some LEGO stickers, a LEGO set, some candy (LEGO like and not), and we lucked out and found some LEGO whistles at the dollar store. They also got to keep the construction hat they received on arrival and the kids loved that.

Kids really are in love with LEGO and this theme is an easy and fun party to plan. So take the time to check out all that’s available, get planning and give the birthday boy or girl the gift of fun and joy!

80th Birthday Party Ideas – Happy Birthday to YOU!

lit 8 0 birthday candles

Birthdays are special regardless of the age being celebrated. As each year passes, another birthday allows us to commemorate, celebrate and honor that extraordinary person in our life. Reaching eighty is definitely a significant occasion and should be treated as such. Number 80 quietly demands for an out of this world celebration, something truly unique and memorable, not only for the invitees but the guest of honor as well. Eighty is a time for loved ones to articulate their affection and admiration and, yes, a party is the perfect opportunity.

80th Birthday Party Ideas – Now is the Time!

Eighty is a landmark birthday and is the ideal time to let your loved one know what they mean to you and how valued and cherished they are. 80th birthday party ideas will help to make your celebration special and filled with thrilling and unforgettable memories that will mean the world to the birthday honoree.

Are you organizing an 80th birthday bash for that someone special in your life? And looking for some suggestions to remember this joyful occasion in the biggest way ever? Then look no further, here are some helpful 80th birthday party ideas for those planning that milestone birthday for someone they love.

80th Birthday Party Ideas – Time to Start Party Planning!

Anything 80 Birthday Party – This really fun and unique idea is to use the birthday age as the theme of the party. So almost everything party related is based around the number 80. And I mean Everything! Virtually every single thing involving the birthday and the party is incorporated into the number 80 resulting in a great big birthday bash. All supplies, decorations, tableware should confidently and proudly bear the number 80 everywhere, even the number of guests should be kept to 80. Have the invited guests bring a gift of, you guessed it, 80 of something. It literally can be anything… 80 candies, 80 pencils, 80 cards or 80 of whatever else comes to mind!

This is Your Life Party – One of the top 80th party ideas is to design a presentation of the birthday honoree’s life… a stroll down memory lane, if you will. This can easily include pictures as well as a video production highlighting all the happiest and best parts of a person’s life. A sequence of decorations that harken back to the day when the guest of honor was growing up. With the quick use of Google you can simply research what was in and what was out during those formative years. And you can easily find the most popular items and events, price points of the time as well as the top music and movies from back in the day and display them in a decorative fashion. With the “them” being all about the birthday person’s life, birthday party planning has never been so much fun.

Book of Life Party – This fun filled idea is great for those celebrating birthdays of all ages, not only the number 80. Create a questionnaire and send it to every single person that knew the guest of honor when they were younger. The questionnaire should include various questions about the honoree including how they met, what their favorite memory is and what they deem as the birthday person’s most appealing quality. While at the same time, collect pictures from the different phases of their life. Birthdays are the perfect time to relive all those fabulous life experiences and special memories of those times and the folks that shared their journey. Once you receive all the replies, info and pictures, you make a book of life, a great way to document and celebrate the life of the person celebrating their birthday. It’s the gift that will keep on giving…joy that is!

Eighty is the ultimate time to look back at the past and look towards the good times coming. It’s the 80th birthday and I say lucky them! Planning the 80th for a loved one can be a most enjoyable and interesting time. Finding the right theme and idea will make it all that much easier and so worthwhile. So get out there and start planning!

Unique Party Ideas – Thinking Outside of the (Gift) Box

x's and o's with the words think outside the box

With so many unique party ideas, we all strive to ensure that our party is the one that everyone remembers and talks about for weeks to come. We want our guests to have such an amazing time that our party is the yardstick used to compare future parties. And whether it’s a kids’ birthday party, an anniversary or retirement party, or a holiday celebration, we don’t our guests to see the same old, same old. We want something amazing, fun and different.

But since most of us aren’t Kardashian’s, we can’t just call the party planner to the stars. We have to do the work ourselves. But never fear! There are a lot of great resources out there to help you throw an exceptional and distinctive party without the celeb sized bill. All it takes is a little creativity, some hard work and the internet!

Unique Party Ideas – To Dream a Little Theme

Although attributed to several different people, it was writer Barbara Grizzuti Harrison who said “There are no original ideas. There are only original people.” Which, in my opinion, is pretty much true. Everything is a variation on an existing theme. Now some people may disagree but it does make borrowing ideas a little easier.

The best way to make your party unique is to find a rarely used theme and add a little twist. You don’t want to go so far outside the box that you’re in over your head. Having some perspective or experience is a good place to start. So, how can you add that twist to an already existing theme?

Unique Party Ideas – And Now for Something (Slightly) Different

The costume party. Yawn. We’ve all been there. Another costume party. How many kitty cats, baseball players and toasted westerns (a cowboy with toast taped to their body) have you seen? But shake it up a bit, add a twist and you have a different (dare we say original) idea. Are you and your friends great lovers of literature? Throw a “Favorite Literary Character” costume party. A big fan of the Oscars? Have an Oscars costume party where your guests can come as anyone ever connected to the Oscars (but hopefully not the streaker from the 1974 Oscars).

Bowling Party. Done that about a dozen times as a kid. But how about an adult bowling party, at your own home! Thanks to Wii, it’s easily done. Invite your guests to show up in their most garish bowling shirts (bowling shoes not required). Although you can serve anything, consider variations on our favorite bowling alley foods such as hot dogs, nachos and adult beverages. You can add some contests (ugliest shirt, most strikes, lowest score) to make things a little more interesting.

Kiddie Party (for Adults). Although it sounds a little silly, it is actually a lot fun. Starting with the invitations and carrying the theme through the games, food and even loot bags! Instead of Pin the Tail on the Donkey, how about Pin the Tail on the Kardashian? Simon Says can be a lot more interesting after a few drinks. And if you’ve ever watchedThe Ellen DeGeneres Show you know that Musical Chairs is a lot of fun when you add blindfolds.

Unique Party Ideas – Food for Thought

One of the best things about parties, besides the friends, fun and frivolity is the food! Food, glorious food! And often we see the same things at all of the parties we go to, so change things up a bit and theme the party around food. That will keep people talking for weeks to come. You can pick a country and theme it around that. An all Italian party with food, drinks and decorations. How about a Mexican or Jamaican theme with food and fun to match?

Thanks to the internet it is so easy to find recipes and decor ideas that will be central to your theme. There are numerous web sites devoted to tourism for every country. Have you always wanted to go to Japan? Serve sushi and tempura, decorate with cherry blossoms and have some anime going. Have you been dying to go to Amsterdam? Decorate with Van Gogh prints (off the internet) and tulips, use red light bulbs and serve…Heineken.

I was at a party recently that kind of scratched the surface without really diving in. It was French food and wine but there was no decor or games to match. While we had a great time (and the food was wonderful) if our host had brought it to the next level, it would have been truly formidable!

The possibilities (and countries) are literally endless.

Everyone is looking for that next great party idea. Don’t be a follower but instead set the trends for your group of friends. Look at what’s current; consider pop culture, sports and entertainment and you’ll come up with something new and different! With a little creativity and the internet, your next party is sure to be a smash.

Birthday Party Ideas – Are All Parties Created Equal?

pink balloon with a smiley face

When it comes to birthday party ideas, the question remains, are all parties created equal?

We all try to come up with different ideas for our parties, whether they’re cocktail parties, retirement parties or kid’s birthday parties. Especially kid’s birthday parties. It’s a tough world out there on the school playground and while a party doesn’t have to be extravagant, it has to be fun. Not over the top, but memorable and entertaining all while not breaking the bank or breaking the parents.

There are so many options available to parents these days in the birthday party world. DIY’ers have brought home parties to a whole new level while venues have become more creative while trying to get your business.

So what’s a parent to do?

Birthday Party Ideas – The Movie Theater Party

I literally just got off the phone with my friend Karen who just had her eight year old daughter’s birthday party. And while Karen had searched high and wide for something a little crazy and original, her daughter requested a simple movie theater party this year.

The movie theater party is a little different today than when we were kids. Back in the day, our parents would take us to McDonalds and then try to get us to the theater on time and have to buy (and carry!) popcorn, drinks and treats for 10, 15, even 20 kids. And there was also transportation to worry about.

Birthday Party Ideas – It’s Time to Play the Music, It’s Time to Light the Lights

…it’s time to get things started on the Muppet Show tonight!

Karen’s daughter loves the Muppets so when she heard that The Muppet Movie was coming out, there was no other party that would do. So Karen set out to find out what was available for the modern day movie theater party.

One big difference was that today, most theaters have a party room available to parents and their guests. This allows them, for a set cost, to come in, eat, play and then go see a movie. Everything contained in one area. Sweet.

Karen had the choice of two packages. Package one included the ticket and a “kids combo”, soda, popcorn and a small chocolate bar. Package two was an extra $2 per child (that’s not a typo, two bucks) and they also got the choice of a meal. It was pretty standard fare, hotdog, hamburger or pizza, but for the extra $2 it was a no brainier. Any adults were full price and paid extra on top.

In addition to the food, ticket and party room, the party package included a party hostess. The hostess not only served the food and cleaned up after the kids (a blessing to any parent having a kid’s birthday party) but escorted them into the theater and even brought them their popcorn and drinks! A great addition for any parent trying to keep an eye on 20 kids.

Birthday Party Ideas – Was It Worth It?

There were a few glitches. It was the week before Christmas and Karen had booked the party at literally the busiest mall in town. But she recruited a few extra adults to help corral the kids and she stood curb side, waiting for parents to drop the kids off. It was a great idea that the guests’ parents appreciated because it meant they didn’t have to find parking!

After telling me about the party Karen stated that it was, hands down, the easiest party she ever had. It cost her (without loot bags or cake) about $20 per child. The kids had a great time and it truly was a no fuss, no muss, kind of day for her.

She’s already trying to convince her son of the merits of a movie theater birthday party!

A birthday party doesn’t have to be a huge blowout to be a success. More and more companies are offering all inclusive parties that are fun and easy on both parents and their wallets!

Wedding Party Ideas…

Photo courtesy of American Candy Stand Cupcakes (Aust.)

There are so many ways to change up a wedding these days, to be somewhat different and stand out. You’re looking to shake things up and add that extra bit of “hotness”. When researching and searching for wedding party ideas, all that`s required is Google (or your favorite search engine) to check out what’s happening in the world of weddings.

Wedding Party Ideas – Check This Out…

A really fun trend in the wedding world is cupcakes. Yep I said it, cupcakes in place of a wedding cake. Some may consider having cupcakes (instead of a wedding cake) to be messing with tradition, calling it nontraditional, if you will. And among other things stating that it leans towards immature and juvenile. Then there are those that are on the pro-side (including myself) of things, that feel cupcakes in place of a wedding cake is utterly fabulous.

If you are a more traditional bride and have dreamed a conventional wedding with all the long-established bells and whistle, then go for it and plan what you have always envisioned. But if you are looking for something different and a little more unique then I say go ahead and try it. Whether you are working with a wedding planner or planning your wedding on your own, cupcakes can be the ideal substitute for the modern and forward-thinking, and do I dare say trendy, bridal couple. There are lots of cool, elegant, chic and tasteful ideas that allow you to match your wedding theme and decor to the cupcake and wrapper that will make your wedding memorable!

Wedding Party Ideas – Check This One Out TOO…

Some call them Theme Drinks. Others call them Signature Drinks. But whatever the moniker, they are always a wedding favorite. Theme drinks are a fabulous way to show the individuality, character and uniqueness of the modern leaning bridal couple.

With a tweak here and there, most non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages can be modified and made into a unique wedding theme drink. Depending on the season, there are so many terrifically delicious ingredients out there that can be used and incorporated to create that oh so special drink recipe.

Once again the bride and groom can easily incorporate the theme and color scheme into the selecting and naming of said drink. Your caterer will work with you, experimenting and testing out formulas to come up with the perfect drink that will have your guests enjoying and appreciating those distinctive wedding touches!!

There are lots of impressive wedding planning ideas out there. So jump on your computer, do some quick research and start planning! You never know what amazing things you’ll find to make your own wedding or the wedding you are planning unforgettable.
