Funny Birthday Surprise (comedy video)

funny birthday surprise showing a woman about to cut what she thinks is a cakeFunny birthday surprise ideas usually involve a prank joke of some type. As is often the case, the “surprise” is usually geared towards the birthday boy or girl. With a surprise birthday party, the event often unfolds by having a group of family and friends waiting for the unsuspecting (or maybe they are suspecting, who knows) birthday guest of honor.

For today’s post, we present a prank video from our friends at Just for Laughs. As you’ll see in the short gag video below, the element of surprise is actually geared at the adult in this case. And the prank is performed by the kids!

As the saying goes, “let them eat cake”!

Event Planners Need Good Communication Skills (Comedy Video)

two men comically using a bullhorn to demonstrate good communication skills

It’s a funny thing, communication. You actually have to listen to what the other person is saying. How many times have you been talking to somebody when it became quite obvious that the person was really just waiting for you to finish so that they could start talking.

In other words they’ve completely zoned you out.

The Importance of Good Communication Skills

To be a great event planner means that you’re good at effective communication. Written communication skills, as well as verbal communication, are essential to an event planner as they work with many people in order to get their job done. Without expressing their expectations properly, a meeting or event could soon become a nightmare.

When I was writing this article, I was looking for a way to give an example of bad communication skills. I came across a comedy video, which is actually a commercial for Ameriquest Mortgage Company, that best illustrates what can go horribly wrong when there is a misunderstanding in communication.

While I’m sure you’ll get a chuckle out of the video, let’s hope its message hits home. Don’t forget to tell people what your expectations are, as I’m sure you’re aware that they “can’t read your mind”.

A Team Building Comedy Video to Help Break the Ice

cartoon of birds sitting on a wire as part of teambuilding

“For the Birds” video short by Pixar

It’s very common for meetings and events to include team building activities. The challenge for many event planners is to find ways to engage the audience. An event planner’s goal, when determining team building ideas, is to make all of their attendees feel comfortable enough that they’ll want to engage others and have fun. Something to break the ice, so-to-speak. After all, the goal with any teambuilding exercise is to have your team working side-by-side assisting each other to complete a common task or goal.

“For the birds”, a short 3 min. video from Pixar, has been used by meeting and event planners as a way to make people relax and have a good laugh at the same time.

A comical video is a great icebreaker. After all, where is it written that you can’t have fun while working at the same time?

Isn’t the Easter Bunny Supposed to Make Kids Happy (Funny Video)?

Scary Easter Bunny

It’s the time of year when the Easter Bunny makes his annual visit delivering all the chocolate goodies. Setting aside the Christian aspect of the holiday, Easter is also synonymous with chocolate. And who better to deliver these delicious treats than the Easter Bunny himself, of course!

Many parents spend countless hours concocting Easter ideas for kids. Of course many of these ideas include colorful eggs (do Easter bunnies lay eggs??) and, of course, the hunt for the chocolate eggs. I seem to have an up session with the chocolate Easter eggs here, I’m realizing. Hum.

An Easter Bunny Entrance That Takes a Turn for the (Comical) Worst

The video below was setup by the parents of two small children who were, as you can tell, anxious to find out what the Easter Bunny was bringing. It’s obvious that parents wanted the element of surprise to be a large part of the Easter tradition. But, as you’ll see, the surprise didn’t quite unfold the way the parents thought.

Happy Easter from All of Us Here at Plan an Event.

Funny Video, Shortest Wedding in History

wedding prank, bride getting mad at groom just after getting married

Who doesn’t like a funny video, when done in good taste? Well, in keeping with that spirit, our friends at Just for Laughs Gags have come up with a prank that would make wedding planners cringe.

Just ask any wedding planner what their worst nightmare would be. Actually, I’m sure there’d be quite a list that the planner could give you. But right up there near the top would be the bride and groom behaving. And, in particular, behaving toward each other.

Enjoy this funny wedding prank video. It’s nice to see there are a lot of good Samaritans out there, even if they are the target of a prank. All in good taste, of course.

St. Patrick’s Day Party Fails (Comedy Video)

Happy St. Patrick's Day cloverSt. Patrick’s Day officially started in the early 17th century. It’s recognized as an official holiday in Ireland (naturally). Even here in North America, it’s an official holiday in Newfoundland, Canada. Of course on March 17th of each year we all become a little more Irish – and green.

What is St. Patrick’s Day about?

When we think of St. Patrick’s Day, the more common items that pop into our minds are the green food and green beer. Yes, it’s pretty much the only day of the year where it would be considered acceptable to drink green beer and eat green food. It really is a celebration of all things Irish.

Here in North America, and especially in the more Irish cities such as New York and Chicago, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a parade followed by the usual fun fair at a local pub. And, as green is synonymous with Ireland, everything about St. Patrick’s Day decorations has to do with green. In Chicago, even the water goes green.

Of course when there is a little more cheer than normal involved things can, how shall we say this, sometimes get carried away. In the video below, from Huffington Post, take a look at some of the more humorous aspects of St. Patrick’s Day. Pretty safe to say that perhaps the people here were enjoying themselves a little too much.

From all of us here at Plan an Event, we wish you a very Happy St. Patrick’s Day. Try not to become part of next year’s video compilation. But enjoy yourselves!

Merry Christmas – Scruffy the Elf – A Funny Christmas Song

Can you believe it, the time is here and Christmas is upon us and we are just a mere day away. Hopefully everyone is safe and sound and as Santa would say “You’ve made your lists and you’re checking them twice”. You are ready, all your party plans have been made, gifts have been bought and wrapped, food has been purchased and recipes have been decided on and you are feeling the love. So when it comes to this special time of year, Christmas, you are ready to go. Relaxing and sitting with your feet up eating bon bons and just wishing, wanting and waiting for all the fun to start…right?

For so many, this time of year can bring on anxiety, stress, tension, hassle and a whole bunch of worry. We all know this is the season to spend quality family time and sharing and caring for others. But sometimes just sometimes the craziness of the season intrudes and things don’t work out that way. Stress is a holiday destroyer and can affect not only your Christmas but your health as well. So if you want to enjoy your holidays take a minute, be realistic, plan ahead and ask for help. And don’t forget about some happy holiday music to put you in the just right mood. Just ask Scruffy the Elf and take some time to enjoy his mostly politically correct and funny Christmas Song.

Merry Christmas!

All Meeting Planners Want for Christmas Is…

all meeting planners want for Christmas is

Meeting planners are used to making a list and checking it twice. Like Santa, it’s what they do all year long. Meeting and event planners have to work with a lot of suppliers in order to make their programs run smoothly. And inevitably you know what happens when you have to rely on several other people to make your function go off without a hitch. It’s otherwise known as Murphy’s Law.

A Meeting and Event Planners Christmas Wish List (If Only…)

We started wondering exactly what kind of a list meeting planners would make at Christmas time if they had an opportunity to correct everything that they don’t like about their job tasks.

So we present to you a meeting planners Christmas wish list for 2013 (after all, one can wish):

  • hearing suppliers say “we can do that”
  • a final program invoice that is in the ballpark of their quote
  • a proposal that actually addresses what they requested
  • submitting a request for proposal (RFP) and not getting 100 telephone calls or e-mails from suppliers asking for clarification
  • that all the venue lights are working when they arrive
  • Wi-Fi services that cover a distance more than 2 feet
  • for people to get their name right during cold calls
  • staff that understand that a “working lunch” actually means people are working in the room
  • suppliers that know how to spell
  • to stop receiving information that they didn’t request

For all of you meeting and event planners out there we hope your wishes come true for 2013. Merry Christmas.

Surviving the Office Holiday Party – The Key is Moderation! (Funny Video)

clay red santa, white snowman and green christams tree

In my last year of high school an adult once shared with me “the older you get the faster time goes by”. And I literally remember thinking and saying “I can’t wait”. Well as it turns out, he was right and I am now eating my words because of course  I realize “I could wait”. And every year at this time I think the same thing, I cannot believe how fast time really does fly by. Each year the weeks and months zoom by and before we know it the holidays are upon us.

Can you believe it’s that time of year already?

With so much to do on a personal front, all the list making, shopping, preparing and of course enjoying it’s hard to believe we get it all done in time. And once we feel we may have a grip on all things holiday we are gifted with an invite to the work holiday celebration. Talk about stress!

While we all value being appreciated and invited to a work holiday party, most of us still stress about how to enjoy ourselves while still minding our p’s and q’s. It’s always a battle to find the just right boundaries when it comes to office holiday parties. Your work friends will be there but don’t forget the powers that be will too. And yes we are there to have fun, so fun is the name of the game, while avoiding the pratfalls of typical party conduct. When all is said and done and the merrymaking is over we all want to still have a job.

So as this classic and most enjoyable tongue and cheek video from VideoJug shows the key is moderation, everything in moderation. And as shared on this “How to Behave at the Office Christmas Party” video when attending an office holiday party there is much to consider so remember be punctual, dress right, mingle, drink responsibly, tread carefully and behave.

So don’t fear the office holiday party and above all remember to enjoy! Happy Holidays!
